A Study of the Influence of Charging Decisions on Disproportionate Sentencing

FIU is implementing a research project on prosecution with the aim of examining charging discretion and charge dynamics throughout the life course of a criminal case, and the impact of charging decision on sentencing outcomes. The project aim is to advance fiscally, morally and legally sound prosecutorial policies and practices that further public safety without promoting excessive and disproportionate sentencing. The project is funded by the Charles Koch Foundation.
